Are You An Adhole?

Anyone who pokes around this blogworking community will find blogs, comments and dialogue of interest and vision. As citizens in an industry that is essentially collapsing under its own weight, there is a lot to share and compare. We live on the line of demarcation between where the advertising business as we knew it has failed and its renewal has begun. New media, companies and ideas will hopefully produce great campaigns created by dynamic risk takers. Many of the people who will have great influence in this future live here.

Adholes has an address- it is a 6-foot square cubicle, a borrowed conference room and a cell phone in San Francisco where state of the art web servers purr away on borrowed time. It is Marc and Jesse exchanging 20 emails a day about features and problems without making a dime.

Adholes is an idea-based community where people representing every continent in the world have come to speak, be heard or to listen. To me this is not some Internet startup, it is a hearth where people out in the cold can warm their hands and make conversation. Gathering around the fire is as old as humanity itself. It embodies how generations have shared knowledge, hopes and dreams. Those that gather must also contribute, recognizing that their place at the fire is earned by supporting the community and not just themselves. Wood, food and clothes were the usual currency; today it is money and not a lot of it unless you want to consider how the 30 Insiders (paid up members of Adholes) will support the other 4,400. Money is needed first and foremost; it is the priority when it comes to supporting the technology, the people who maintain it and to make improvements. Also appreciated: good contacts, help with publicity, and simply urging others to recognize the value of membership by joining.

Many people have asked us to offer an option other than Pay Pal. This week you will be given information about membership options and where checks can be sent. We request a check or money order, which upon receipt we will email you a receipt from Half Fiction LLC for “Industry editorial subscriptions” reflecting your membership. Please take this opportunity to reflect upon the importance of that contribution and the future of this, your community.
