I know that many of you must dabble in the film industry. Either you know someone involved with indie film making or you make new contacts on production shoots.

Don't you think those in that inudstry could benefit from having an "Adholes" of their own??

I think it's a fabulous idea...

And Marc and Jesse - I love this new feature.

Yes, huge industry where connections are KEY. Have you ever heard of www.shootingpeople.org ? They are pretty active in NY and maybe they'd be interested in some sort of partnership or building bridges with adholes.

I think the idea of an "Indie Film" or "Outside Hollywood" type site is a great idea! Even if you are in LA all the time -- the film industry is now all over the place and to get work, you gotta be in touch. Those two simple facts mean the idea is sound - maybe with our ability to better brand these individual group sites, we can help get regional and special interest leaders better involved.

The lack of success of the film site was less about it not being a good choice and more about the guy who was running it. It is a very good idea and one that's come up in our strategy meetings. There's a site called Wheresspot which is a Yahoo group for broadcast production people in advertising, and we offered them their own subsite (see Jesse's blog in this group for details) where they'd have complete autonomy but much better software and support. They turned us down because giving up the slightest bit of control wasn't an option for them. Eventually we'll move in that direction on our own.

i absolutely think it would work and be very successful, because like advertising, people in film move from production to production and rely on a good network. we really need a few dedicated people who are heavily involved in the film industry to give it a kick start. last time, we tried this with someone who wanted to keep the site "invite only," which i don't think was a very good idea. also, lots of film people tend to be on shoots most of the time and not on their computers as much. i can never get the directors i know on email, only on the phone.

Interesting... the thing is, I know there is crossover. I know that film directors are directing tv ads all the time. I know that dp's are doing it too. I would imagine that this site took some time to get off the ground, as well as the Lovesgrapes site. But as with any new venture, you do have to give it some time.

ha - we tried to start one of those...wasn't so successful. but we shouldn't have been so elitist about it either.
